This week we had a group tutorial – we did not learn anything within it – instead we simply checked up on our progress to make sure nobody was falling behind – fortunately of those who actually attended (which was not all!) nobody was falling behind.

Having finished our prior Arduino Task, we began to look into sensors. We were given a large expensive box of sensors each and told to look through for one we liked, so we did! I found a heart rate monitor which was interesting. I spent quite some time trying to get it to work, however it did not. We later realised that it required you to stay completely still and be perfectly placed – this did not make it suitable for my means so I changed my final project to instead make use of a shake sensor to detect if an elderly person has fallen over.

We had a guest workshop which taught us how to make MIDI Controllers from Arduino’s! It was interesting, but had quite a few technical difficulties which made it a learning experience for both staff and students alike.
